The TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre of Monmouth is one of the few practices in Central New Jersey to use the new and most refined technology of CMT (Complex Motion Tomography). This unit enables the clinicians to look at various bony structures at & above the cervical spinal cord area. Various views are taken enabling the clinicians to better understand the magnitude of a patient’s condition. Views taken during a work-up are Frontal and Saggital Tomographs of both condyles or jaw joints to determine arthritic change and loss of joint space. A Lateral Cervical Spinal (to show loss of curvature, reverse curvature, loss of disc space and arthritis. All these can be related to TMJ disorders and either be a source of pain referral or a major contributing factor. Paranasal Sinus Tomograms will show airway obstruction in the form of nasal polyps, septal deviation, or enlarged turbinates.. A Panorex will show any bony pathology such as cysts, abscesses or neoplastic growths which can refer pain into the head, face, neck and jaw. Also the Panorex can show any bony asymmetry. A Cephlogram (Lateral and Frontal) also shows bony asymmetry which can contribute to a TMJ Disorder. The cephalometric radiograph also gives valuable information on how to direct orthodontic treatment. The equipment has the capacity to take Tomograms of edentulous areas enabling the oral surgeons or periodontist to understand the quality and quantity of bone prior to implant placements.
